Our Minister Retires
On Sunday 24th October, the congregation of Dreghorn and Springside Parish Church said farewell to our minister the Rev. Gary Horsburgh. He was our minister for more than 32 years. Many tributes were paid to Gary prior to his retirement. This included an entire assembly produced in his honour by the Primary 7 class of our local Primary School.
Janice, his wife, was included in these tributes. She has been a tremendous support to Gary throughout his ministry.
Gary has guided the congregation through good times and difficult times. He played a pivotal role in the union of the two Dreghorn churches. One particular highlight was a successful visit from the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend David Arnott There have been many other happy times together as a congregation and some sad. However, the one thing we will all miss are Gary’s sermons which have inspired and uplifted us over the years.
At the end of Gary’s last service, presentations were made to him and Janice from the congregation and the Loyal Orange Lodge. Following morning worship, the congregation enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch, after which more tributes were paid. This provided a much more relaxed atmosphere in which to say goodbye.
We have been asked by Gary to move forward with confidence into the future.
All of us wish Gary and Janice a long, healthy and happy retirement. He will be sorely missed.
Our annual charity quiz night will take place in the church hall on Saturday 4th October at 7.30p.m. Our charity this year will be Erskine Hospital. If you would like to join us we will be in the session house after the morning service to ad

Here with an update for church website........
I had a look back tonight to see when we last put an update on here and I can't believe another guiding year is almost over. We have had another successful guiding session with our numbers reaching 33 girls in the unit-the highest number yet with a waiting list of 12.
We have had our annual pack holiday, the theme being disney princess this year and 16 girls attended for the weekend. Activities included making 101 dalmation puppets, princess hats, composing dances from the film frozen, peter pan treasure trail, making lion king jungle boxes and creating glow fairies in a jar. The girls had a ball!
This year is a special year in Girlguiding as it is the 100th birthday of brownies-we supported the girls to attend a county event at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock for a 'Big Brownie Birthday Sleepover' where 130 girls took part from across the county as you can imagine no sleep was had by any girls! However great fun was had by all, activities included power hooping, dancing, crafts, jewellery making as well as visiting the ice cream shop 'The Forum' for an ice cream which has been specially made to celebrate the 100 years of brownies.
We have also recently had girls make their brownie promise-Iona McDade, Laurie McDade, Aimee Inglis, Emma Stevenson and Alicia Boyle, as well as girls getting promoted posts to sixers and seconders-Rachel Muir, Niamh Surgenor, Abbie McDowall, Isla Muirhead and Katie Morrow
We have had another busy term and have lots more ideas to try next term. Here's to another successful guiding year ahead for us. Brownies will finish the last Tuesday in June and commence again for the new term on Tuesday 2nd September 2014
We would like to say thank you to the members
of Dreghorn and
3rd Dreghorn Brownie Leaders
