Hello, Dreghorn and Springside Parish Church

Hello to everyone within the Dreghorn & Springside parish!

My name is Clarke Muir and I am a candidate for full-time Word & Sacrament ministry with the Church of Scotland. I am in my final year of theological studies and my placement with you and Rev Jamie Milliken is my last of three placements before I enter probation in August.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the lovely welcome I have had since arriving with you in September – I’ve been greatly encouraged by you all! I have thoroughly enjoyed my first month with you and I have learned so much already. There is a strong sense of momentum and progression as Dreghorn & Springside Parish Church strides out of covid and gets going again. It’s clear to me that so many people contribute to the worship, life, and work of your church – you’ve been a great example to me so far and I can only pray that I can work with a team like you when I am ordained and inducted into my first charge.

I live just along the road in Stewarton with my wife, Aileen, and our two children, Lewis and Cara (21&19). Some of you know that I originate from Cumnock so I can understand the broadest slang and dialect that Ayrshire can dig up!

I have over 30 years of experience in Social Services – most of that being in Child Protection. Working with people for the whole of my career has been a great privilege and I’m delighted that I can now continue doing so with the freedom to talk about faith and Jesus.

I remember thinking about God from as young as 4 years of age. My mother has been a significant influence in my life as she ensured I heard the Gospel each week at church as I grew up in the 1970s. I have always had a sense of God’s call on my life and I’ve known that one day I would serve the Lord and His people on a full-time basis.

Jamie and I have known each other for almost 20 years and I have watched his ministry progress and develop during the whole of that time with great admiration and respect – he’s been a great example to me too. I am so grateful to be training with him now.

Again, thank you for the welcome and encouragement I’ve received. I am with you until Easter so I look forward to enjoying worship and friendship with you for the next 6 months.

Every blessing in Jesus,
